Foraging through time and space

Most of these are from the illuminated manuscripts, created during the Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance periods (1000-1550 C.E.)  The fifth kingdom (or hidden kingdom) abounds in these works of art if you know what to look for..  There seems to be a hyphae-like common thread permeating these pieces..no?  Perhaps the artists were.. illuminated?
